Biography: Arthur Bonfiglio
Battle Creek - Arthur Bonfiglio, age 92, went to be with his Lord Saturday, December 2, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 5, 1924 the son of Anthony and Sarah Bonfiglio in Coldwater, Michigan.
He was a three year Navy Veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theater. Arthur was proud of the fact that he was one of five brothers who served during WWII. Arthur married Frances Bunce in 1948 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater, Michigan. She preceded him in death, in 2003.
He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree from Western Michigan University and worked at General Foods for 36 years, retiring in 1987. He was very active in his parish and his children's activities. He served on the St. Joseph and the United Catholic School Boards, he was active in Scouting and was a Scoutmaster, he managed Little League Baseball teams, he was active in 4-H and worked Bingo for St. Joseph Catholic Church for years. Arthur enjoyed playing golf, tennis, which he was still playing up until a year ago, he took pride in his yard, and his culinary accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Pauline Leedy, Chloe Sullivan; brothers, Edward, Carl, Robert, John and Joseph. Arthur is survived by his sons, Anthony (Frances) Bonfiglio of Cincinnati, OH, Dr.'s Dan (Diana) Bonfiglio of Battle Creek, MI; daughter, Kathy (Tom) Scheid of Rochester, MN; 7 grandchildren, Andrea Hoch, Brian Bonfiglio, Carl Bonfiglio, Mimi Schuemann, Rebecca Roberson, Benjamin Scheid, Laura Scheid; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Battle Creek on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm. A Rosary will be held at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00am with Father Christopher Ankley officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Frances Bonfiglio Scholarship Fund or the Battle Creek Relay For Life Cancer Fund.
