Merton Frederick Jaques, Jr., age 97, of Battle Creek, MI passed away in Venice, FL on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Marshall, MI on March 6, 1920, the son of Maude and Merton F. Jaques, Sr. He graduated from Marshall High School. While hanging out with friends at the lake, Merton met the love of his life Virginia Blue. Shortly after, he was drafted and proudly served in the United States Air Force during WWII for 3 ½ years. Virginia patiently waited and when he returned they were married in Battle Creek. He was employed with Kellogg's as a machinist for 28 years, retiring in 1981. Merton enjoyed blue gill fishing at his cabin up north and camping in his fifth wheel. He spent his winters in Florida for over 40 years. Merton was able to spend his last year in Florida.Left to cherish his memory, is his loving, Virginia, of 71 years; children, Patricia Jaques of Battle Creek, Douglas (Linda) Jaques of Battle Creek; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; grandson, Kevin; 1 brother, and one sister.
Friends and relatives may be received at the Craig Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Battle Creek Chapel, 2838 SW Capital Avenue on April 29, 2017 from 12pm-1pm. A memorial service will be at 1:00pm following visitation. Interment will follow at Newbre Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
