Biography: GLADNEY, THOMAS E. age 81, of Albion, Michigan passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Saturday, March 9th 2019 at the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home. Thomas Gladney was fiercely loyal and dutifully devoted to family and friends. Born in Houston, Mississippi on March 8th, 1938 and raised in Jackson Michigan. Graduate of Jackson High School, Class of 57. Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957. His career in law enforcement began with the Albion Police Department as a patrolman, sergeant, and lieutenant, of which he retired. In May 2017, Lieutenant Gladney was named Honorary Chief of Police by Chief Scott.
After retirement Tom worked for the Albion College Department of Public Safety and was the Commander of the Albion American Legion Post 55. Tom was a boy scout leader for Troop 162, a chairperson for the West Center Street Neighborhood Watch, and volunteer for the local Habitat for Humanity.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years Barbara (Bradford) Gladney, Sisters Marge (Clifford) Thomas, Dorothy (Rashed) Ali, Willie Mae (Douglas) Bostic, Theresa (Fredrick) Ingram, and son Thomas and Kristen Gladney Jr; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine (Tubbs) Gladney and father John Wesley Gladney.
Per his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will take place on March 22nd at 1:30PM at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek and 3:00PM at the Albion American Legion Post 55, respectively.
