Obituary for Donald Duane Barber Sr.
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Donald D. Barber, Sr., age 84, of Climax MI, announces the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin and friend on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at his home in Climax, MI.
He was born March 8, 1935 in Battle Creek, MI the son of Robert Russell Barber and Viola (Kibler) Barber. He retired after 20 years in 1996, with the city of Battle Creek as a maintenance worker with Battle Creek Housing. Later he drove a school bus for the Climax Scotts school system for about 10 years then as an aide for special needs students.
He married Audrey Wardell on Feb. 19, 1966 in Grand Rapids, MI, however she passed away Feb. 20, 2013
Donald is survived by three sons: Charles Clark; Donald & Kelly Barber, Jr.; Robert Russell & Delores Barber all of Battle Creek, MI; two daughters: Sandra "Sandy" Greg Harrison of Climax, MI; Brenda R. David Hebbler of Battle Creek, MI; one brother: Jim and Beverly Barber of Bronson, MI; one sister: Betty & Richard Trumble of Battle Creek, MI; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great -great grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Rebecca McKenny 2016, wife: Audrey Barber February 2013
He had served as a Private 3rd Class in the U S Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until his discharge in 1956; he was a tank mechanic and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of the American Legion Climax Post 465, a member of the Battle Creek PNA club. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, tinkering around the hous4 and doing fix-up projects, he liked to go camping; his most favorite past time was talking with a cold beer in his hand. When he was younger he was on the Climax bowling league.
There is no planned visitation at the funeral home however Graveside services with his cremains with Military Honors will be Monday, April 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Ft. Custer National Cemetery with Pastor Adam Metzger of Lakeview Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
